On August 24th, GWAPA will be holding our first summer picnic at Lake Needwood in Rockville Maryland. We've reserved a picnic shelter.
In addition, Cavan will lead whoever is interested in a tour of the local aquatic plants around the lake. Lake Needwood has a good representation of local aquatic plants that are commonly found in our area, including Ludwigia, the only North American native Rotala, Lindernia, and more. Don't miss it!
Please RSVP using the poll above to indicate whether or not you will be able to attend. Members and non-members are welcome!

I'll be in Michigan at a wedding. I'd much prefer to be at this picnic!
Have fun everyone!

Have my company picnic to attend that day, would rather be with Jim at the wedding.

Re: August Picnic and Native Plant Tour
For those looking up directions on Google Maps - or perhaps using your GPS it might be best to enter "Lake Needwood, Rock Creek Regional Park, Redland, MD" - using Rockville as the city my system came up with a location that was nowhere near any lake - the park is north on Avery Road from Norbeck Road (Route 28) - if you are coming west on Norbeck - Avery is just before E Gude Drive - or coming the other way - just after E. Gude.
Re: August Picnic and Native Plant Tour
I will post full directions on the homepage soon. I just wanted to get the word out. Thanks George!
Re: August Picnic and Native Plant Tour
I'm planning to make an appearance--it's been too long since I've made a meeting.

I will have to read about whether alcohol can be brought into the park, but my guess is that it is not, so don't plan on it.

I checked on the Montgomery Parks site - as I thought but was not sure ---
