Just tried it, results seem good so far but will have to wait to see if snail eggs survived or not. I think some Cladophora algae survived though, along with a marimo moss ball.

I wonder if this would kill duckweed? That might be asking too much.

I wouldn't think so.
I think the blackout part if it is supposed to kill off the algae, and I cannot think of any plants more able to survive in the dark, unfortunately
