i have been dealing with this stuff for a little over a month..this is my basement 20L low tech tanks w flourate dark and seachem sand tanks. light is the T5NO coralife aqualight and its on for about 6 hours now. filtration is two sponge filters. fish is a few ottos and pair of apistogramma sp pebas.
idk what to do, in one tank that got crazy i took everything out and bleached. trashed all plants and took apart.
curious fact: same substrates and similar plants in 20H w same light on same timer etc. no algae.. does it have to do w height? lol..sounds funny but the other tanks have none....ahhhhhhhhhhh

It could also be Spirogyra (Water Silk) or if it is a branching filamentous algae, Cladophora. Hair algae tends to be a favorite food for many an alga eater. Spirogyra or Cladophora, not so much. Good flow and moderate surface agitation seems to reduce the occurrence of all the above. The question of height you raised does suggests a difference in the water flowing through the 20H. Maybe make some changes there, as well as any maintenance that is needed i.e., clean any pre-filter/sponge filter weekly and in the areas where it seems to have taken over the grassy plant, mow the lawn.
