New LED Modular lighting at Ken's

Ken's has some new Aqueon Modular LED Light Fixtures. They are pretty neat. They come with one day LED bulb and you can add up to two more. THe prices are good too. http://www.kensfish.com/modular-led-lighting.html

When I use up all my T5 bulbs, I am going to switch my 37 to LEDs.

Wow. These are nice and no homebrewing. I'm tempted to switch over my T5 fixture to these. I'd be interested in the color rendition however from anyone who goes this way.

I'd probably need three lamps total since my substrate is about 24" from the lamps.

The website doesn't say. I went to the Aqueon "Contact Us" page, and sent them a question about it. I will let everyone know if I get a response.

I asked Ken's if they knew the PAR reading. They replied.

"I do not. They are a new product. I was very impressed with the light from them. It seems the real glass on the lights make them much better than the traditional plastic coated ones. The other feature is that you can replace the bulbs down the road instead of throwing the light away."

Well replacable bulbs are good if they are built to some sort of standard and don't just disappear after a few months. Any idea if these meet some sort of industry standard?

I'd be tempted to take a plunge.

I've just had another Coralife compact florescent fixture fail. So I'm on the hunt for a replacement; preferably an LED fixture. I'm also tempted here.

I would recommend the Finnex fixtures over these. The Finnex fixtures have been tested by a lot of planted tank folks and have PAR data available. Also, once you start adding bulbs to these modular fixtures the price goes up considerably.

Not once you add 2 more bulbs to the modular fixture. Also, the Finnex is definitely the right color and has enough light for sure to grow plants. I'd at least wait until you know more about the Aqeon fixtures.
