It's been said on many forums in multiple posts that if you get the items in good shape from the vendor then all is good. However, if there an issue with the product consider the money lost.

I have a 48" Odyssea and have had no problems. I purchased it through Ebay though so I cant speak for the website.

Are you using it on your 55g planted tank or for a saltwater tank? which one

Brian,
On my 55 gal, I use the overdriven Home Depot light that is suggested on this website.

Takes a little study, but give a lot of light and grows most plants well.

The red plants don't get enough light, but glosso and hair grass grow well.

And it is remarkably affordable.

I am actually using it over a 75 gallon convict tank. My light is

48" 260W Dual Strip Compact Fluorescent Light Fixture (3 Separated Power Cords!) $89.90

with moonlights built in.

It doesnt completely provide enough light for serious plant growth but I also did not get the correct spectrum bulbs and my convict tank is only growing some swords, java ferns and anubias so it hasnt really impacted the tank much. Sorry I cant help you on what it does for a planted tank more.

My 55 gallon planted has a home made fixture that has 4 6700 K 65 watt bulbs with metal reflectors. I picked up the fixture from a guy that was tearing down and wanted stuff gone and it has worked out well. The only complaint I have about the Odyssea is that gunk accumulates too quickly on the plastic sheet between the bulbs and the water and cuts down on light to the aquarium. I have to clean it at least twice a month.

Thanks! the tank is actually not set-up yet but I have bought the stand only. I am planning to set this up ones I move to a bigger place (condo is in the market). Is 48" right size for 55gallon or not? I haven't bought the tank as well.

If its a 55 gallon thats 48 inches long then yes that would be the right size for the tank. You just have to check the dimensions of the tank before getting the light.

Ben,

I got a 72" 384W Dual Strip Compact Fluorescent Light Fixture from aquatraders.
It took them over 2 weeks to have it delivered. When it arrived two of the four bulbs were broken. They did send me new ones; however, it took them a month to do so. Overall, besides them being slow, they seem to be good (and very cheap!).
