African Violet

Post by Ben Belton »

Of course I wouldn't get an aquarium plant to go crazy. This developed a bright green area on it that I guessed something would grow from. I didn't expect this. I can't tell if this is a bunch of leaves or a bunch of plantlets that will differentiate into leaves.

Haha, that would be an AV leaf doing what it does best. You can't tell right now, but those are likely leaves that are bunched but it's not easy to tell right now. You'll have many an AV plantlet out of that ;)

Haha, that's part of the problem I've realized with TC... I'll end up with WAY more than I was ever looking for! TC is great if you're looking for hundreds or more, but if you'd have been happy with 5... then maybe that's not the plant to TC  What are we all going to do with all of these guys?!

Well, if this was something like a Crypt that has been slow to reproduce, I'd be happy.

Actually, I shouldn't say that. I am happy and I'm excited, but a billion African Violets was not I had in mind when I starting doing this :-)

 AV people compost their extras all the time, don't feel too bad. I'll probably have to do a lot of that if I can't sell the suckers on eBay... but great experience for some other less common gesneriad cousins I might actually want a lot of :D

I'm seeing a bit of what Bens AV is doing - but mine doesn't have THAT many offshoots. Ben did a better job of sticking the leaf into the Agar. Mine's just resting on top.

I'll take some african violets if you need to get rid of some.
