Are your fish happy?

Post by John G »

Probably not, according to an article in the NY Times:
"Tropical fish hobbyists will tell you their tanks are a source of relaxation, but recent research suggests the fish might disagree. "
and“If people kept dogs in these conditions, they’d be put in prison”

Good read! This is one of the wonderful things about aquascaping and planted aquariums -- I like to think that in addition to making the tanks more beautiful for us, we're making them more interesting for the fish as well. It's no wonder that fish display better coloration in planted tanks than bare-bottom breeding tank with washed out florescent lighting.

I agree. I have, for the most part, stopped killing fish since I have added all the plants. The tanks look better and are healthier for the fish. :)

I didn't read the article yet but can say they like being alone and act differently with me in the room, also they don't like fast movemnt from my dog or loud noises like barking or the kids music. But I would agree that the thicker more jungle like your tank, the happier they are.

I'll go read now.
Sincerely,
Tim
