MUCH BETTER THAN LAST PICTURES From 02-04-2004

The one on 02-04 was their first spawn, in a community tank... I had to scurry to remove the other inhabitants. The pair came off the eggs during all the commotion, and did not return to the nest. Two days later, the eggs were all gone...
Now, on 02-14 (how appropriate!) ph is at 6.5, and they were kind enough to spawn on the slate! Easy removal if I decide to hatch w/o parents...

Suggestions? On the photography or the spawn!!

This is really exciting Marsha! I know that when my Rainbow Cichlids (Herotilapia multispinosa) spawned, it was fascinating! I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures of the "fry swarm" after the eggs hatch!

Well, no hatch from this spawn... Eggs gone this morning... There are seven rams in here - the pair & 5 brothers & sisters...and multiplied snails. Do snails eat eggs?

Any hints on how to tell the pair from the group? It is a heavily planted tank. When they are on the eggs, its pretty easy, and all the others hide under everyting... but now... I want to move everyone else out & see what hhapps with spawn number three.

Try a night light - most small Cichlid parents can guard against snails pretty well IF they can see them 24/7. The ordinary (7W?) incandescent night light duct taped in the hood or atop the cover glass has worked for me. In a pinch, one of the ~same wattage sensor-controlled Christmas window candles will do the same job. These are dirt cheap at the craft stores such as AC Moore.
