Seedlings, full grown, whatever... I'll even set up a 20 or 29 gal Lace nursery...Kudos to the guy who can grow Madagascar seedlings!

I'll save the real questions until after the soil talk, but:

What kind of lighting do you have on this...? you have really piqued my interest... I was under the impression soil tanks needed to be low light/low maintainence and look like, well a crypt farm <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> I need to have 6-8 watts per gallon for ego reasons and wondering if its possible to pull off with soil <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0">

You know those 65 watt Lights of America fixtures? I have two of them that I outfitted with computer case fans over this ten. 'm not sure how much light they actually put out after you figure in the lousy reflectors and the restrike potential of the bulbs.

I have soil in all my tanks, the 30's are running 3 watts/gallon, including the crypt farm. I'm gonna go buy some test kits so I can get the parameters that everyone craves. I just find it so easy to run the tanks by "feel" that I haven't tested the water in more than 4 years.

Looking at your plants (mostly by wallichii color), I think I can safely predict you'd have a tough time detecting any nitrate, and only then with a LaMotte kit, maybe 1ppm. In my experience, the rotala gets an orange color around 5ppm NO3 then moves to the pink/red when NO3 nears 1ppm in the presence of excess iron. If you are interested in water params, don't even bother with the aquarium grade kits, you will not get a reading from them I'm almost sure of this... I'm not going to be at this meeting, prolly the next one you can bring me a sample and I can test NO3 for you...
