Redid the 30 shrimp tank.

As a few have seen, this tank was outta control. Way overgrown and had clado running rampant.

On the plus side, it is no longer outta control, and I'm only finding tiny scraps of any algae.

On the minus side, there are undoubtedly a couple dozen small cherry shrimp currently in my back yard where the Python was draining to in a couple of 75% back to back water changes, and I tossed a grocery bag full of plants .

Ripped out almost everything, saved some sag, few crypts, nana petite.

Few trimmings from another tank, and this is what I ended up with:

It does look good. I'd say that you could add even a bit more rock too, that is, if you happen to have a few thousand pounds lying around in your backyard.

Is that a spray bar in the back? What have you done there?

Umm, it is a cob job.

I wanted to use a skimmer fitting on the end, but the Eheim one is way overpriced, and gets reviews of eating shrimp and fry, so wanted to use the fluval/aquaclear one.

Except, of course, the fittings were the wrong sizes! Finally found that the outflow pipe would fit directly into the intake of the skimmer, and haven't gotten an extra piece of tubing ever to clean up the look. Need t do that.

LOL! Be careful Dave, your plumbing may start looking like mine. It may work, but it frightens children and spouses...

Eheim surface skimmers do work, so long as there are no smallish snails or shrimp in the tank. If there are, they clog the intake and unbalance the thing (meaning it does not work at all as even the open side is pulled under the surface), and which is a PITA to clean out. They are an elegant solution with very limited application. If you ever want to test such, I have a collection of them - in long-term storage. I had one in use on the 30XH (both shrimp and snails) but have pulled it off indefinitely.

Looks nice. I really like the the way the porous rocks look too.
