Plants with extra genomes
Not strictly on topic, since Aradopsis is a terrestrial plant. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if some aquatic/marginal plants do this, too. Essentially, in response to getting eaten by herbivores, some cells in Aradposis develop duplicate copies of their genome. It's thought that the extra copy stim...

Re: February Meeting
Did you guys have the meeting? We had a memorial service in Hyattsville that day. I had hoped to make it to the meeting, but the weather got so bad, I gave up on that idea. It took us 45 minutes just to get to the Beltway, and another half hour to get to Silver Spring.

Collecting trip Saturday, 10 am 8-16-14
Per my earlier post, about finding a new collecting site for the Catfish Convention field trip this fall. We'll meet at the first site, where Route 7 crosses the Shenanandoah River, at the parking lot below the bridge's east bound span, just off River Road (606). The site is west of the towns of Blu...

Re: Catfish Convention Collecting Scouting Trip this weekend
I haven't been to any of them yet, Arlene. I think we might find madtoms and maybe rainbow darters, especially farther out. We like our current site just fine. It's loaded with madtoms and roanoke darters. However, it's 2 1/2 hours away from the Convention site, which makes for a long, possibly expe...

65 gallon high for trade
Hi all. I have to take down my 65 gallon high low tech planted tank by October to allow for some home renovation in the room it's currently standing in. The tank has always been a little high for me, and, for a low tech tank, a bit of a challenge to light adequately. Would any of you high tech folks...
