local source for cool rocks

Hi ... what are good places to get interesting rocks? I'm interested in using them for terrariums. Getting them at aquarium stores can get expensive so i'm looking for a cheaper source, like a rock or landscaping store that tolerates slightly insane hobbyists like me rummaging through their stocks. ...

sorry for late response ...

thanks for the replies. For some reason, my email notification for responses is not working so i missed these comments. (I'll check my account settings.) I'm still looking into it. My biggest concern is the water getting too cold during a weekend blackout, so i need something for heaters. And being ...

I'm looking into the Xantrex power pack ... anyone have experience with it? Or can i go with something smaller for powering filters, heaters, and powerheads? http://www.xantrex.com/power-products/backup-power/xpower-powerpack-1500.aspx It's $500+ which is a lot of money for me, so if there's a cheap...

Hi Robert, thanks. I'm looking online right now but any recommendations would be welcomed. I have a 40g and 10g, both planted. The 40g is not heavily stocked and mostly has pencils in it, which are quite hardy. But I have two old flying foxes I adore, and fear that they may not survive this latest f...

battery for operating heaters and filters during blackout

I am so mad at myself -- in trying to get other stuff done, i did not think about how a heavily planted tank with no lights would affect my fish. I've lost 2 and will probably lose more. :( I've ordered battery-powered air pumps for next time. Hopefully it will never happen again. But i got to think...

off-topic question for aquarium builders -- tempered glass

Hi ... my apologies for the off-topic question, but some aquarium builders may be able to help me out with this problem. I am building some glass shelves across a window with is about 40+ inches wide for my plants. This is what i had in mind http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1252/5099384591_9807c3aae1_...

NO3 and PO4 test kits?

Hello ... i used to use LaMotte NO3 and PO4 test kits about 8 years ago. Really expensive stuff. They're still expensive and my paycheck hasn't kept up with inflation. I need to get new test kits. Are there any less expensive alternatives that do a good job with PO4 and NO3 measurements? thank you! ...

Cristy, i thought i was supposed to remove the fish for high excel dosages. Some people reported that they looked sick at high dosages. So you're saying that 5ml/10g will be OK? If that's the case, I'm relieved because i was dreading catching them and stressing them out. Eugen, for eradicating small...
