I got this pair from the CCA mini-auction after the Aquarium Photography workshop last month. They've wasted little time! I got home yesterday to see a small swarm of fry around the female. So far, she's been able to protect them.

You can see one of the fry to the right of the female, above the rock.

Look at the color difference between the male and female! Before spawning, the female looked very similar to the male.<edited><editID>krisw</editID><editDate>38053.4341782407</editDate></edited>

These are really nice pics! Did you get any of the male in "display" coloration? I am looking forward to more. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley32.gif" border="0">

Nah... I wish I did. Infact, I suspected that <em>something</em> was going on when the female changed colors, but in truth the male hasn't been very interested. I've kept other cichlids where during spawning the male and female where virutally inseperable. They would trade off guard duties and such. In this case, the male has pretty much left all of the duties to the female, from eggs to fry.

If I'm lucky, they will. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0"> I don't think the mom's lost a single one since they've hatched. Unfortunately, I don't have a more secure tank to move them to, but so far there have been enough hiding places, and the mom's kept them protected. I'll post again if there are any changes.

I;ve got an extra tank or two...need one? or is it that you lack space to set up another? That's my problem!

Hit it right on the head Marsha. I'm hoping to rearrange some things this summer to make room for a few more tanks. This hobby is like a drug. <img border="0" src="smileys/smiley2.gif" border="0">
