Re: February Meeting
I really wanted to come but it just wasn't in the cards. Arlene be careful in the Potomac on a Jetski that is one dangerous and deadly river so make sure you have all the proper saftey gear, or better yey come down hear and drop them in the bay or the lower Patuxent it is much safer but not much on ...

Re: February Meeting
Carpooling is an excellent idea. I'll be coming from kent island. If anybody lives near that route (50-495-267) I'd be more than happy to pick up. Mustang though so room realistically for one, maybe two if your small. Or we switch cars along the way to somebody's bigger car. Let me know. I've sent ...

Re: Shrimp populations?
That's true, I thought the tank was near empty at one point so I pulled out both pieces of Cholla to reveal about 30 shrimp so there could be way more shrimp in here than I'm actually seeing. I've been using feeding times to do a rough count after withholding food for an extra day so it is a very ro...

Re: Shrimp populations?
I was waiting to see what you'd say, it does seem like a good amount but I was suprised that it kind of stalled at that number, who knew shrimp are smarter than us and the Mayan's and would self regulate the population.

Re: Shrimp populations?
I think it's time to move some to another tank or setup a larger tank just for them. I thought they would just keep on breeding until there was no more room in the tank as long as I kept the water clean and food available but it seems they regulate their populations in some manner that pertains to t...

Shrimp populations?
It seems the shrimp in my nano tank never let it get over populated, is this possible? It's a 2.5 gallon that is just over a year old, planted with AS but low tech, weekly water changes and filter cleaning plus I add new carbon weekly and no fertilizers unless I see a problem, so the water stays ver...

Re: Less Demanding Plant List
Thanks Kris, so far in my low tech tanks it's been trial by fire to see who lives.

Re: Planaria???
I bet that's why it smelled, dead planaria. My trap also holds the water without leaking and the lack of circulation/oxygen etc. did seem to kill the seed shrimp but I think they are just too small to put off any odor but I will keep that in mind as anything larger might release release toxins. Oddl...

Re: Planaria???
Really, what food did you use in the trap?
I used Red Bee, Barley, & Fry feed and the trap was very slimy to the touch but I didn't notice any smell.
I don't think I used any foods like Repeashy that you have to handle like regular food with refrigeration, etc.

Re: Planaria???
I did take your advise Jim, I moved the unit up just a hair of off the substrate but not enough that the shrimp would be able to get under it. It was in the tank since last Friday and I removed it today before the normal feeding only to find a pure white pile of seed shrimp gathered on the substrate...
