My LED moonlights are tiny, the "fixture" itsel about 1 3/8" square by about 7/8" high. They sit on the plastic trim piece at the back of the glass top, elegantly secured by tape. The fact that I use old, relatively high profile strip lights means the unit itself is invisible fro...

Maybe if folks planning a massive pruning or removal, posting early with what you will have to sell/trade will allow interested folks to say, also in advance, that they want the plant and the seller to take it from there.

It would be a time saver.

Second Cristy and krisw's comments and thoughts. Fresh wood (meaning not presoaked, not green) will lower pH & reduce KH (same thing), but it an operating tank with routine water partials the effect is trivial and declines markedly over time. If you pre-soak the wood until it sinks quickly, the ...

The sailfins would prefer hardish alkaline water (increased GH and KH) much more that salted water. Salt, sodium chloride, does boost the osmolarity a bit, but has no effect on the pH/KH or the GH. The common advic to use salt with closr to the wild molies is a myth. yes, certainly they can be brack...

LOL! Old age issues have kept me occupied. and off the streets.. but the tanks are not too bad, sorting out and reducing numbers but not total volume. It may be time to semi-automate. If I do, Judith will take pictures. imagine the tank room with even more PVC...

It is not the pH causing the melt, it is the osmotic change. Monitor the ph or the KH (pH is easier to check) and do more frequent, possibly smaller, patials to keep it more stable.

I haven't kept Marimo balls with RCS, but they are fine with Amanos. The Amanos groom the Marimos more than anything else in the tank, and have done no damage to them over years.

I am rarely in a hurry, but often impatient. Just trying to figure out a way to accomplish in the fall/winter part of what did not get done in the summer.

Okay, related item - how about heating cables in sand trays? These are used spring-only for seed and transpnts from such for outdoors, and is in a cool area. The temperature is lowish (I don't remember the exactreading, haven't been used in a couple of years), just warmer that the ambient. Basically...

The "bananas" are storage tubers, and are not needed or wanted on actively growing well-rooted plants. When platlets appear on the floating leaves, if you leave them long enough they will develop the tubers. That provides food/reserve energy for when the leaf disintegrates and the young pl...
