So, these designer substrates are essentially gravel with the laterite (clay) as an integrated component, and with some other (temporary) nutrients mixed in? Then, what's the point? Why not stay old school with regular gravel? Soil, of course, would be either the oldest of schools or retro old schoo...

Kris, Since I know you've got a little of everything in your tanks, aside from the Aquasoil, which substrate do you think has provided the best growth? From what I saw at the meeting, all your tanks looked lush. And is Aquasoil really that much better than Flourite or Eco? How much different can a c...

Hmmm...I wonder who brought in a bunch of Downoi to SCALES? 8) I would go with the Eleocharis again. The thinner leaves lend themselves better to the scale of the nano tank I think. Eleocharis parvulus is the specific species you should be looking for. Both that and Eleocharis acicularis are sold a...

Is there a "What's an aquascape" category similar to the "pre-pre-beginner" category? We're certainly willing to help with layout suggestions and such. You'll soon come to rue that comment. However, you can help me out here: "Do miniature Roman ruins constitute a ...
