Thanks Sean, In the 30, pH is approx 6.8, don't know hardness, temp mid 70s, lighting is somewhere in the 50 watt range and is on for 10 hrs/day. Occupants are tetras, otos, an ancistrus, several nerites, corys, and 1 cranky SAE. Thing about this tank is that much of the java now dying has been in t...

3 questions

1) My java fern is dying off in my 30. This tank has slowly become my catch-all tank for trying stem plantsion. Could the java die off be due to all the stem plants out competing the java for nutrients? I note that my bolbitis and various anubias appear fine. 2) I have 2 small A. nana in the nano ta...

This is a common thing for blyxa, mine will kinda float above the substrate as well but the roots are still in the substrate. Did this maybe happen and a fish just swan into the bunch tearing the roots? How are the other plants in the tank? I've had the floating root thing in all 3 tanks, but in th...

roots rotting away

Just before the June meeting I received a nice allotment of blyxa, which I distributed between my 3 tanks. In my nano and my 5 gallon, the clumps eventually float to the surface. In every case, that particular clump had lost all its roots. I push the clump back into the substrate but days later, the...

Perhaps I've been too nice to my formosa. I've been crushing the flake food into microscopic crumbs in the thought that a couple of regular size flakes would sink before they got to it.

Guess I'll simply get some new batteries...

Feeding formosa while away

What/how do you folks do to feed tiny fish when you're away? I'm about to leave for a week.

I'm tempted to toss in a weekend feeding tab, but I suspect it would only feed the shrimp and snails.

For my larger tank, I hook up an autofeeder and try to underfeed.

I've got 7 in mine, too. The floating plants are doing great under all that light. My roooted plants are scraping by at best. The glosso is starting to spread. The green algae is having a field day. (No, I didn't count the algae as one of the species).

Is it an Eheim 2213? Mine's been burping ever since I cleaned it out 2 months ago.
